736,767. Flexible couplings. SOC. APPLICAZIONI GOMMA ANTIVIBRANTI S.A.G.A. SOC. PER AZIONI. Nov. 27, 1953 [Dec. 11, 1952], No. 33070/53. Class 80 (2). A flexible coupling comprises, connected between each pair of alternating axial pins 4 on shaft spiders 1, 2, a pair of elastic straps 10, 11 or 12, 13 of which the outer strap is bulged inwardly and inner strap outwardly so that, under load, the straps of a pair under compression, e.g. 10, 11, abut against each other at the middle and thus resist deformation, while the straps of a pair under tension, e.g. 12, 13, are free to straighten out. As shown in Figs. 1, 2, the straps 10, 12 ... and 11, 13 ... are parts of endless rings 5 and 6 which are riveted at 8 to ferrules 7 mounted on the pins 4. Alternatively, each strap 10, 11, 12, 13 ... may be secured individually to the ferrules. Each pair of straps 10, 11 or 12, 13 may form an endless band looped at its ends over the pins 4 in the manner of a hinge, or looped over separate pins 22, Fig. 5, projecting from plates 23 secured to the spiders or mounted on the pins 4. The straps may be of rubber or other elastic material or formed of layers of rubberized fabric bonded together.
