Abstract

736,717. Printing-machines. AYERS, F. P. June 11, 1954 [April 13, 1953], No. 9999/53. Class 100 (2). Inking-apparatus.-In a press having a flattype bed which is inked by rolling an inking roller over the bed, a runner 8 on each end of the roller runs over a guide edge or rail 7 and is formed with at least two different diameters each of which can be brought into use. In the hand-lever operated platen press shown, the box 1 for the vertical type bed is inked by two rollers 2 carried by a yoke 5, and the rails 7 are provided by the sides of the box 1. Each runner 8 on the rollers 2 comprises a sleeve having an intermediate groove separating two ends of different diameters, the sleeve being located on the roller spindle by a screw &c. Initially the larger diameters are arranged to run over the rails 7, and when the roller 2 wears or shrinks and no longer inks the type face, the sleeves are reversed or adjusted so that the smaller diameters run on the rails. In a modification, the runner has three different diameters. Specification 452,450 is referred to.
