Abstract
736,475. Discharge apparatus. SOC. APPARECHI ELETTRICI E SCIENTIFICI. Sept. 28, 1953 [Sept. 27, 1952; Jan. 13, 1953], No. 26601/53. Class 39 (1). [Also in Group XXII] A getter container comprises a split tube or channel section member of toroidal or other closed shape, Fig. 10, having a longitudinal slit through which the getter vapour escapes. It is made by cutting the shape from metal sheet, and then pressing in a mould to form a U- or V- section, as in Fig. 13. The getter material L is pressed firmly in place, and then the channel is closed almost completely, leaving just a narrow slit F, Fig. 11, through which the getter evaporates. This evaporation may be given a directional effect by extending one wall of the con-, tainer as a wing A. Instead of being welded in position, such a getter may be simply supported by a thin wire. The metal sheet from which the getter is made may comprise several layers, bonded or folded together, Fig. 15 (not shown), for example a central layer of iron or steel, for strength; an outer layer of nickel, aluminium or other good conductor, to facilitate induction heating; and an inner layer which reacts advantageously with the getter material.
