[Also in Division H5] Apparatus for drying bodies whose dielectric valves and geometrical dimensions vary in dependence on the drying operation e.g. wound packages or cakes of filamentary material 1 comprises primary electrodes 3, 4 connected to an H.F. generator and auxiliary electrodes 7, 8 of differing dimensions provided on the end faces of the bodies with an intervening layer 9, 10 of thermally insulating substance of low dielectric loss. The layers 9, 10 are also of gas permeable material e.g. glass silk, and are constructed as centring devices for the bodies. The auxiliary electrodes are of pyramidal or frusto-conical form and the electrode 4 is formed as a metal conveyer belt.
