Abstract
431,477. Hoops for metal drums &c. ROBINSON, G. A., Hillcrest, Sutton-on- Hull, Yorkshire. Jan. 9, 1934, No. 752. [Class 21] Metal drums &c., particularly those with circumferential or peripheral outward corrugation! are strengthened internally o: externally or both by one or more sheet metal bands o: hoops 1 of T- or narrow U section which is/are welded or soldered in place and affords a narrow laterally projecting annular flange or rib. In the form described, a flat strip of sheet metal is bent to the section described, e.g. to that shown in Fig. 5, and is then bent into a hoop and secured within or around the container. An alternative form is shown in Fig. 2. According to the Provisional Specification the hoop and the wall of the drum may be corrugated simultaneously after the hoop is in position, the hoop being held without welding or soldering ; also the hoop may be corrugated oppositely to the wall of the drum so that a space is left between the two.
