Abstract

735,519. Gas burners. NAAMLOOZE VENNOOTSCHAP DE BATAAFSCHE PETROLEUM MAATSCHAPPIJ. May 28, 1952 [May 30, 1951], No. 13505/52. Class 75 (1). A gas burner comprises a burner head having a plurality of inclined flame discharge orifices so arranged that the discharge axis of each orifice is at an angle with respect to the discharge axis of at least one adjacent orifice, the spacing of said adjacent orifices being such that the flames therefrom are stabilized by the formation of whirls between adjacent burning jets, and with one or more additional flame discharge orifices which are so arranged relatively to said inclined flame discharge orifices that the flame or flames therefrom is or are also stabilized. In the burner shown in Fig. 10 the combustible mixture supplied to a conduit 3 discharges through a central slot 22 and two pairs of rows of orifices 21, 21<SP>1</SP>, the axes of the orifices of each row being parallel but inclined to the axes of the other row of the pair so that flame stabilizing whirls are produced between the rows at the bases of the flames, and the flames at the orifices 21, 21<SP>1</SP> stabilize the flame at the slot 22. Each pair of rows of orifices 21 or 21<SP>1</SP> may be formed by interposing between two walls a bar provided with mutually inclined ridges on opposite sides thereof. Alternatively flame stabilizing orifices may extend diametrically across a tubular burner outlet, or may be provided centrally of an annular burner mouth, or may extend circumferentially around a cylindrical burner head having perforations providing the main flame outlets.
