Abstract
Polyethylene terephthalate is melt-spun or melt-extruded by melting the polymer in an atmosphere of dry air and causing the molten polymer to pass through a spinneret or die to be formed into filaments, yarn or other shaped articles. The polymer may be kept in a molten condition for about 20 minutes and the air may be dried by passing it through a column or bed of a dehydrating agent, such as silica gel.ALSO:Polyethylene terephthalate is melt-spun or melt-extruded by melting the polymer in an atmosphere of dry air and causing the molten polymer to pass through a spinneret or die to be formed into filaments, yarn or other shaped articles. The polymer may be kept in a molten condition for about 20 minutes and the air may be dried by passing it through a column or bed of a dehydrating agent, such as silica gel.
