Abstract
A solution, e.g. in tetrahydrofurane, of polyvinyl chloride of K-value at least 70, an M-value of more than 40 and an n-value of not more than 12 is spun into threads, hairs or bristles. The M-value is defined as the amount, in cubic centimetres, of a solvent mixture consisting of three parts of chlorbenzene to one part of epichlorhydrin per gram of polyvinyl chloride which, from a solution at 80 DEG C., will form a drop on a glass rod which, on cooling for exactly three minutes, will fall and clearly draw a thread. The n-value is the percentage amount of the lower polymerized fraction in the polymer previously extracted with methanol at room temperature which is soluble in xylene at 100 DEG C. The spun threads may be cold drawn.
