Abstract

Delustred threads, fibres, bristles, ribbons and the like of high bulk elasticity are made by melt spinning a product obtained by polycondensing a polyamide forming monomer in admixture with a polystyrene having a molecular weight of at least 100,000 which is distributed in the final product as a fine dispersion, the polystyrene being admixed with the polyamide forming monomer in an amount of 0.5 to 35 per cent by weight of the monomer. In examples, a mixture of epsilon-caprolactam, hexamethylene diamine adipate, polystyrene and distilled water was heated to 260 DEG C. in a nitrogen atmosphere. The resulting polymer was extruded and comminuted to form chips which were washed to remove caprolactam and thereafter dried and melt-spun.
