Abstract

<PICT:0730247/IV (a)/1> In apparatus for the wet-spinning of artificial filaments, a vertical spinning funnel 3, coaxial with the spinneret 1, depends through the base 7 of the coagulating bath 2, and the filaments 6 are wound up on a roller 5 mounted in such a position that the axis of the funnel is tangential to the roller periphery, the distance of the roller below the lower end of the funnel being at least equal to the length of the funnel and the maximum distance being limited by the condition that the bath liquor leaving the lower end of the funnel must remain in the form of a continuous jet 4 until it meets the periphery of the roller. The apparatus enables spinning to be effected at a very high speed and promotes improved filament characteristics. The spinning of viscose rayon is described.
