Abstract

325,714. Courtaulds, Ltd., Hollely, W. F., and Bond, G. D. March 9, 1929. Apparatus for making filaments. - A detachable tip, which is slotted longitudinally, is provided for attachment to the lower end of the spinning funnel employed in spinning artificial silk from cuprammonium solutions of cellulose. The tip can be removed from the funnel and replaced without interrupting the spinning operation, thus allowing the deposit, which forms thereon during spinning, to be removed. The tip may be made of glass, porcelain, ebonite, or other suitable resistant material and mav be fastened to the funnel by a clip or other suitable means. In the apparatus shown in Fig. 2, the tip E is attached to the end of the funnel A by a clip F, which engages in a groove G, and is provided with a vertical slot H, through which the thread is able to pass when the tip is removed. The lower edge e of the tip, over which the thread slides, may be circular, straight, concave, or convex, as shown in Figs. 4-7 respectively.
