Abstract
735,330. Diaphragms. JULIE, J. Dec. 30, 1952, No. 33023/52. Class 40 (4). In a loud-speaker, an inner conoid 1 having a relatively narrow angle and an outer conoid 2 form a single diaphragm which is suspended from a cup-shaped mounting 18 of smaller diameter by an inwardly extending flexible mounting 20. The flexible suspension may be of porous material such as paper or cloth to permit the passage of sound and the mounting 18 together with the outer housing 6, which provides a means of connection with a baffle 23, have holes 8 and 17 also to facilitate back radiation. A clearance 5 between the periphery of the diaphragm and a sealing ring 4 permit the flow of air from the front to the back of the diaphragm. The diaphragm unit on the mounting 18, including the moving coil 11 and its centring device, is readily detachable, and is located by screws 10 and a plate 13 secured to the top surface of the outer pole-piece 9. The diaphragm may be flared and/or corrugated and the two conoids may be formed integrally one with the other.
