Abstract

734,615. Extruding. LOEWY ENGINEERING CO., Ltd. Jan. 29, 1953 [March 10, 1952], No. 2610/53. Class 83 (4). A hydraulic extrusion press having a bed 3 connected by a plurality of parallel tie bars 9, 10, 11 to the hydraulic cylinder of the press is provided with a rotatable turret 1 disposed between the bed and the billet container 8, having recesses 4 for receiving extrusion die assemblies 5 whereby one assembly is located in its extrusion position, adjacent the billet container, whilst another assembly can be extracted from the turret and replaced by a new assembly. The turret is mounted for rotation on the bed 3 about an axis 2 situated in the proximity of the mid point of the shortest straight line joining the centres of two adjacent tie bars. The turret may be'rotated mechanically or manually. Apertures 6 in the turret receive the discard after it has been severed from the extruded product, and also the dummy block. In another embodiment the turret is formed of two coaxial parts, one carrying the die assemblies 5 and the other counter dies.
