Abstract
935,346. Extruding. LOEWY ENGINEERING CO. Ltd. Jan. 3, 1962 [Oct. 4, 1960], No. 33957/60. Class 83 (4). A metal extrusion press has a plurality of dies 32 carried by a rotatable and axiallymovable turret 17, and a bolster 35 carried by a transverse slide 18. The turret 17 which is rotatable by gearing 19 about one of the press tie-rods 13 and is movable axially by a pair of hydraulic motors 28, houses a pair of opposite dies 32 with backing plates 33, which can be used alternately. Slide 18 is actuated by an hydraulic motor 26 and carries the bolster 35 and a large apertured boss to permit the passage of a rejected billet. Alternatively, the slide may carry two bolsters. After extrusion of a product such as a tube A, Figs. 6, 7 (not shown), the billet container 16 is retracted and the product is severed by transverse movement of the bolster 35, Fig. 8 (not shown), which has a shearing ring 38 co-operating with a similar ring 37 on the backing member 33. Alternatively, a saw 42 may be introduced either in front of or behind the die, Figs. 6, 7 (not shown).
