A serrated wire or strip for use in carding- engines has a base or rib and a thinner upper portion stamped to produce teeth which are not less than 0À010 inch and not more than 0À065 inch high : when the wire is wound on a carding cylinder or doffer or sections of the wire are arranged side by side on a carding flat, the teeth are sufficiently high to hold the fibres but sufficiently short to render the gap or channel between the teeth of successive turns or sections of wire so shallow that fibres, seeds, or other impurities cannot accumulate therein.
