708,340. Carding engines. GARNETT, Ltd., P. & C., and LEATHER, C. I. Jan. 10. 1952 [Jan. 10, 1951], No. 682/51. Class 120(1) In a carding machine, groups of rollers, each group comprising an intermediate roller Y, Y' &c. and two outer rollers X, Z, X<SP>1</SP>, Z<SP>1</SP> &c. covered with card teeth or ganett wire, are disposed about the periphery of the main cylinder W; the whole of the material being carded is stripped from cylinder W by each intermediate roller such as Y, the teeth of which run point to point with those on the corresponding outer rollers X, Z, roller Y leaving part of the material, on roller Z, which deposits that part back on to cylinder W, and the remainder of the material being removed from roller Y by roller X and deposited thereby back on to cylinder W, with the result that none of the material becomes pressed into the teeth of cylinder W. Rollers X, Z may rotate inwardly towards roller Y or outwardly away from it. In a modification, rollers X, X<SP>1</SP> &c. are omitted, the whole of the material on each roller such as Y being transferred to the single outer roller Z which deposits it back on to cylinder W.
