3715. McBride, P. L. Feb. 12. Carding - engines. - Pairs of slowly rotating card - clothed cylinders 2, 3 and 5, 6 are arranged between the feed-rolls F, F' and the doffer D, the fibres being transferred from one pair to another by a conveyer roll 4. Rolls 7 ... 13 are arranged in the angles between the cylinders to card with one of the rolls and be stripped by the other. Fancy rolls 14, 15 are provided and may be used with either bent or straight teeth. The cylinders 2, 3, 5, 6 may revolve at a surface speed of 2,000 to 6,000 surface inches per minute, the cylinder 4 and roll 11 at about 1,000 surface inches per minute, and the rolls 7, 8, 9, 10, 12, 13 at about 150 surface inches per minute. Rolls 4, 7, 8, 9, 10, 12. 13 may revolve in either direction. The pairs of cylinders 2, 3 and 5, 6 may be replaced by single cylinders, and more than two pairs may be used.
