Abstract
1, 035, 671. Combing-machines. JAMES HILL & SONS Ltd. March 13, 1964 [May 28, 1963], No. 21317/63. Heading D1N. A combing machine having two sets of pins, e.g. on comb circles, has a portion of each set adjacent and approximately perpendicular to the other portion. The sets of pins are arranged to move so that pins of each set move downwardly relative to each other. Fibres in sliver form are presented to the pins 2 of a large circle 1 and dabbed lightly into them by a brush 5. As alternatives to the brush 5 press knives or other devices may be used. During rotation of the circle 1 the protruding fringe of fibres is moved into the pins of the circle 3, which circle moves in a direction having a downward component relative to the other set of pins, thereby completing the dabbing operation. Some fibres of the fringe are carried away by the circle 3 and remaining long fibres are drawn off by detaching rollers 6. Other detaching rollers 6 draw off fibres from the circle 3, and combine the two bands of drawn off fibres. Knives 8 remove noil. A large number of circles 3 may be used in association with a large circle. The small circles 3 may be mounted to rotate with their ancilliary equipment within a stationary large circle. Many combing machines as described may be arranged alongside one another to form a single compound machine.
