Abstract
733,191. Cathode materials and processing. METROPOLITAN-VICKERS ELECTRICAL CO., Ltd. Oct: 27, 1953 [Oct. 28, 1952], No. 27080/52. Class 39 (1). A thermionic cathode consists of a block of tungsten impregnated with barium aluminate, e.g. by mixing these materials, preforming under pressure and sintering, or by forming a porous block of tungsten and then soaking it in fused barium aluminate. Such a cathode may be formed as a disc with a flat or slightly concave surface and mounted in one end of a cylinder, or on radially-extending arms, with a heater behind it for producing an electron beam. According to the Provisional Specification the cathode may contain a further supply of barium aluminate in an inner compartment, and tungsten may be replaced by other refractory materials.
