Abstract
800,219. Thermionic cathode constructions. PHILIPS ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. Aug. 10, 1956 [Aug. 15, 1955], No. 24558/56. Class 39(1). A dispenser cathode comprising a body of porous refractory metal in or behind which is provided a supply of alkaline earth metal compound has at least a part of its emissive surface covered by non-porous refractory metal having a plurality of apertures through which emission takes place. The apertures are spaced apart less than the migratory distance of the alkaline earth metal, so that during operation the whole cathode surface becomes covered by migration. In Fig. 2 the non-porous metal is formed as crossed strips or wires 4 of molybdenum pressed into the porous body 1. In Fig. 3 (not shown) it is formed as a thin perforated plate with a scalloped edge.
