Abstract

732,794. Turbine blades. PARSONS & MARINE ENGINEERING TURBINE RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT ASSOCIATION. July 10, 1953 [July 10, 1952], No. 17435/52. Class 110 (3). Turbine blades are secured to the periphery of a rotor disc by means of clamping pieces which radially straddle annular axial projections on the disc periphery and on the roots of blades or blading segments. The periphery of the rotor disc is formed with a T-shaped rim b and the roots d of blading segments are similarly formed, the blading segments being centrally located on the disc rim by means of a tongue i on the disc and grooves j in the blading segments, and being secured by clamping pieces g. The clamping pieces are short lengths, say half-inch, cut from a strip of suitable section. The first blading segment e<SP>1</SP> is mounted on the disc and secured by clamping pieces engaged first on the disc and then moved peripherally to engage the roots of the blades. Subsequent segments are similarly secured. The gap k between the last segment e<SP>12</SP> and the first e<SP>1</SP> may be closed by a packing piece h formed with tavo axial projections h<SP>1</SP> the last two clamping pieces g then being mounted and secured by bending down the two projections h<SP>1</SP>. Alternatively, the gap may be closed by inserting thin clamping pieces therein, moving either of the adjacent segments to engage these clamping pieces, deforming a corner of one of the segments to form a narrow gap and then moving the next segment, and so on. Alternatively; the closing gap may be distributed around the periphery and shrouding then fitted to prevent further peripheral movement of the segments.
