Abstract
732,227. Zinc alloy friction linings. EGGEMANN, W., and CAMPENHAUSEN, E., VON. [trading as SCHWARZ KOMM.-GES., H.]. May 30, 1951, No. 12674/51. Class 82 (1). A friction lining for use in mines is made from a zinc alloy containing 1-4 per cent Cu. The following elements may be present: Ni 0.3 per cent, Mn 0.7 per cent, Fe 0.5 per cent, Cr 0.2 per cent. When the Mn content of the alloy is at least 0.3 per cent and the total content of the other metals Fe, Cr and Ni is at least 0.5 per cent the Cu content can be decreased to 0.5 per cent. The friction lining may be hardened by the addition to the alloy of Mg 0.01 per cent less than 0.1 per cent, particularly 0.03 per cent. The alloys are given a fine grain by the addition of one or more of Ce 1 per cent, Zr 1 per cent, Cd 2 per cent. The linings are cast or pressed into an iron holder. A pit prop 10 has an iron holder 11 formed with recesses 12 in which the lining 13 is pressed.
