731,577. Plate heat-exchangers. AIR PREHEATER CORPORATION. July 13, 1953 [Sept. 10, 1952] No. 19391/53. Class 64 (3). In a cross-flow type plate heat-exchanger, the fluid passage walls are each built up from a first series of juxtaposed channel members 20 lying in back-to-back contiguous relation to a second series of similar channel members 20 extending in a direction normal to those of the first series so that the web portions of all the channel members combine to form the passage wall with the leg portions of the channels extending therefrom on both sides of the wall as fins 21, the fins on one side of the wall running in a direction normal to those on the other side of the wall, adjacent fluid passage walls being spaced apart by further channel members 22 disposed at the marginal edges of said walls and forming the side closures of each fluid passage. Each series of fins extending from a passage wall may be of uniform size or of differing sizes.
