Abstract

A cork, cotton wool, pleated crepe paper or other filter tip, which may be enclosed in a tubular paper sleeve, is artificially impregnated with chlorophyll or a derivative thereof as specified below, preferably amounting to between 0.01 per cent and 3 per cent by weight of a cigarette of which the tip is part and sufficient to impart a strong colour to the tip. The impregnating substance may be natural chlorophyll (a) or (b), chlorophyllin (a) or (b) or a derivative thereof in which the magnesium is replaced by hydrogen or a metal such as copper or zinc, and including the sodium, sodium copper and sodium potassium copper chlorophyllin.
