Abstract

Paper for use in the manufacture of cigarettes has added to it a mixture of nicotine and an acid wherein mol. ratio of acid: nicotine is at least 1 : 1. The acid may be citric, malic, tartric, formic or phosphoric. The paper may be loaded with chalk. The acid/nicotine mixture is applied to the paper in a solvent, e.g. water, or alcohol and/or acetone. The dried paper can contain 8-0% wt nicotine. The paper may be used to form a sleeve round a tobacco rod and may be chalk loaded. A chalk-loaded paper, preferably perforated or porous, may cover the sleeve. The sleeve may be made from reconstituted tobacco sheet. The cigarette may have a cork tip or filter. The paper may be formed into a core of a tobacco rope.ALSO:Paper for use in the manufacture of cigarettes has added to it a mixture of nicotine and an acid wherein mol. ratio of acid: nicotine is at least 1:1. The acid may be citric, malic, tartaric, formic or phosphoric. The paper may be loaded with chalk. The acid/nicotine mixture is applied to the paper in a solvent, e.g. water, or alcohol and/or acetone. The dried paper can contain 8-9% wt nicotine. The paper may be used to form a sleeve round a tobacco rod and may be chalk loaded. A chalk-loaded paper, preferably perforated or porous, may cover the sleeve. The sleeve may be made from reconstituted tobacco sheet. The cigarette may have a cork tip or filter. The paper may be formed into a core of a tobacco rope.
