Class 75(i) A wick for use in a lighter has sufficient stiffness to enable it to be passed down a wick tube and to penetrate absorbent packing in a lighter casing, and comprises a thin, metallic wire core, e.g. of copper, steel, or iron, having applied thereto a coating consisting of a fibrous material, e.g. wool or cotton, impregnated with a material which compacts the fibres while allowing sufficient porosity for the flow of liquid along the wick, e.g. grain-flour paste, such as rye-flour paste, to which size may be added, the coating being subsequently dried. The fibrous coating is preferably such that the fibres extend outwardly of the core.
