Pocket igniters, frictional. -A pyrophoric igniter is provided with a combustible wick 6 comprising a woven body impregnated with a fatty substance and surrounded by absorbent cotton wool impregnated with collodion, a nitrate, potassium chlorate or alcohol, the lid 9 carrying a spike 10 adapted to subdivide the protruding end of the wick to facilitate ignition. The wick is wound on a drum 5, the edges of which project through openings in the casing 1 so as to facilitate adjustment of the wick.
