730,857. Hydraulic couplings. BORGWARNER CORPORATION. Sept. 13, 1951, No. 21534/51. Class 69 (2). A hydraulic coupling or torque converter comprises a shell 30, including an end plate 28 connected to the driving shaft 26, connected at 31 to the impeller casing 14 and having a flexible inner portion slidable at 54 on the outer housing 44. The inner portion of the impeller casing 14 is also free to slide on the housing 44. The inner portion of the runner 11 is supported against axial movement by the end plate 28. Torque reaction members 12, 13 are controlled by one-way brakes. Fluid is circulated through the coupling by an external pump.
