Abstract

875,493. Clutch-brake combinations. DODGE MANUFACTURING CORPORATION. Aug. 25, 1959, No. 29003/59. Class 80 (2). In a combined disc clutch and brake unit 16, 161 between a pulley 13 and shaft 10, the clutch is provided with release springs 35 which, when the clutch is not engaged, override smaller brake release springs 35<SP>1</SP> so that the brake is held engaged and the shaft 10 locked. The clutch is engaged to connect the pulley 13 and shaft 10 by admitting pressure fluid through an axial passage 45 in shaft 10 to an annular piston 30, springs 35 thus being rendered ineffective and springs 35<SP>1</SP> releasing the brake to free shaft 10. Cooling air may flow through passages 33, 39 in the clutch and passages 40 in the pulley.
