Abstract
1,068,637. Friction clutches; electromagnetic brakes. ZAHNRADFABRIK FRIEDRICHSHAFEN A.G. Sept. 4, 1964 [Sept. 11, 1963], No. 36357/64. Headings F2C and F2E. The air gap between a magnet body 32 and an armature plate 35 of a spring-engaged, electromagnetically disengaged multiplate friction clutch, or brake, may be externally adjusted through screw-threads 45, 46 on the magnet body 32, or in an annular member rotatably mounted and axially secured thereon, and on, or in, an outer friction plate carrier 39. In the clutch, as shown, the magnet body 32 and carrier 39 are adjustably screwed together and connected by an abutment flange 42 fast to a driven gear-wheel 43 rotatably mounted on a driving shaft 31, the unit surrounding an armature 35 biased, by a plate spring 37, into engagement with the clutch pack 40, 41. Tommy-bar or spanner holes 47 are provided around the periphery of the magnet body to operate the screwed air-gap adjustment after removal of a cover-plate 48, normally serving to secure the magnet body 32 and carrier 39 against relative rotation. In the brake arrangement of Fig. 1 (not shown) an annular member, rotatably mounted and axially secured on the magnet body, and outer plate carrier are adjustably screwed together and connected by a flange to a casing wall, the annular member having peripheral spanner holes for effecting the air-gap adjustment. The armature is biased to engage the friction pack by springs the force of which can be varied by means of threaded plugs to regulate the brake engagement pressure.
