Abstract
1,195,208. Slip couplings. JEAN WALTERSCHEID K.G. 30 Aug., 1967 [31 Aug., 1966], No. 39714/67. Heading F2U. An overload friction slip coupling comprises friction liners 3 arranged each side of a flange 2, fast on a driving hub 1, between a reinforced back 8 of a driven pot-shaped casing 4 and a pressure plate 5 spring-loaded together by a pair of zero-rate Belleville springs 6, the pressure plate 5 and springs 6 having peripheral logs 10 engaging indented flutings 11 in the wall of the casing 4 for common rotation therewith, and the springs 6 bearing only on a coned inner peripheral edge of the pressure plate 5 whereby the springs are protected from heat generated during overload slip. Bolts (14) (Fig. 5, not shown) may be fitted in aligned holes (9), (13) in the springs 6 and pressure plate 5 resp. to release the spring load for assembly, or release, of the coupling parts, the casing being inwardly deformed at 7 after assembly to retain the unit, the deformation 7 being arranged adjacent one of a number of groups of tangential slits in the casing wall 4, the slits of the other groups being positioned at differing axial distances from the casing lip permitting stacks of springs of different thicknesses and load characteristics to be inserted to vary the overload slip-torque. In Fig. 4 (not shown) an additional pair of friction linings (3<SP>1</SP>) are arranged each side of a driving disc (12) having inner bent-out tongues (12a) engaging holes in the driving flange 2, an intermediate ring (15) being arranged between the centre friction linings (3<SP>1</SP>, 3).
