Abstract

A process for the manufacture of lead chrome pigments comprises treating a precipitated lead chromate (with or without added lead sulphate) with silica (i.e. silicon dioxide, hydrated silicon dioxide, e.g. silicic acid or soluble silicates) or with silica and alumina (i.e. aluminium oxide or hydrated aluminium oxide). The pigment may be treated with silica and alumina in either order. The lead chromate may be precipitated by adding sodium dichromate and sodium hydroxide to a solution of lead nitrate. A suspension of silicic acid may then be added to the precipitate, preceded or followed by a solution of aluminium sulphate. Specification 568,072 is referred to.
