Abstract

1,232,429. Sodium aluminium silicates. SWISS ALUMINIUM Ltd. 29 July, 1968 [9 Aug., 1967], No. 36089/68. Heading C1A. Sodium aluminium silicates are prepared by adding a sodium silicate solution having a SiO 2 content of 0À15-3À5 mols./l. and an Na 2 O: SiO 2 molar ratio of not more than 0À5:1, over a period of at least 10 minutes, to a vigorously agitated sodium aluminate solution with an Al 2 O 3 content of 0À05-2À5 mols./l., an Na 2 O: Al 2 O 3 molar ratio not exceeding 10:1, with resultant precipitation of the sodium aluminium silicate. By using specific values of the above variables, at a specific temperature, e.g. between 0‹ and 100‹ C., products with different physical and chemical properties may be obtained. The aluminate solution may be a liquor drawn from the production of alumina, and the solution from which sodium aluminium silicate has been precipitated returned for use in the production of alumina.
