Abstract

1,205,449. Synthetic mordenite. FARBENFABRIK WOLFEN VEB. 11 Oct., 1967, No. 46409/67. Heading C1A. Synthetic mordenites are prepared by mixing an aqueous sodium aluminate solution with a solid silicic acid, the particles of which have a size of less than 50 Ám, to give a mixture with the constitution, expressed as mole ratios of the oxides: Na 2 O: Al 2 O 3 .. .. .. > 1 Na 2 O: SiO 2 .. .. .. 0À08-0À35 SiO 2 : Al 2 O 3 .. .. .. 10-100 H 2 O: Na 2 O .. .. .. 10-250 and this mixture is heated in a closed vessel for 4-96 hours at a temperature of 110-250‹ C. The solid silicic acid may be obtained by precipitation from aqueous solution by the reaction of waterglass with acids or by the pyrolysis of vapour phase hydrolysis of a volatile silicon compound.
