Abstract
1,183,120. Lithium silicate. HENKEL & CIE G.m.b.H. 5 Oct., 1967 [30 Nov., 1966], No. 45424/67. Heading C1A. Lithium silicate solutions are prepared by heating an aqueous dispersion of finely divided silicic acid and lithium hydroxide, with a SiO2: Li2O ratio of from 4:1 to 8À6:1 and a SiO2 fraction of 8 to 20% by weight of the total mixture, to a temperature of from 80‹ to 100‹ C., immediately separating the precipitated reaction product which is converted by cooling to an aqueous lithium silicate solution. The dispersion preferably contains 8À5 to 15% by weight of SiO2, and the preferred temperature range is 85‹ to 100‹ C. The reaction time may be from 10 minutes to 1 hour, and the maximum temperature is attained, at least momentarily, at the end of the reaction. The process may be made continuous by recycling the mother liquor.
