Abstract

1,222,798. Producing cast iron. DEUTSCHE GOLD-UND SILBER SCHEIDEANSTALT. March 14th, 1969 [March 20, 1968], No.13536/69. Heading C7D. Super-heated molten iron is treated with a nucleating agent consisting of highly dispersed silica produced by wet precipitation or pyrogenically, or with highly dispersed mixed oxides containg 90% to 98% of silica and from 2% to 10% of Al 2 O 3 or TiO 2 . Preferably the agent is added at a rate of 10 gm. to 100 gm. per ton of iron; it may be added in a container also containing a bursting agent and a weighting agent.
