Abstract

1,145,510. Silica. CABOT CORP. 24 Aug., 1966 [30 Aug., 1965], No. 37872/66. Heading C1A. The rheological properties of wet-precipitated colloidal silica having a pour density of at least 0À1 gm./c.c. and an average ultimate particle diameter of less than 100 millimicrons is improved by subjecting said silica to fluid energy milling until the pour density has been reduced to below 0À06 gm./c.c. The fluid energy milling is characterized by spinning the silica about an enclosed zone into the periphery of which is charged a gas, e.g. air, steam, N 2 , CO 2 , Ar, or Ne.
