Abstract
1,131,525. MgBi silicate. D. P. M. BOCHER. 25 July, 1966 [23 July, 1965], No. 33409/66. Heading C1A. [Also in Division A5] Hydrated MgBi silicate is prepared by adding aqueous solutions of Na silicate and NaOH to an aqueous solution of compounds of Mg and Bi, e.g. MgSO 4 and Bi(NO 3 ) 3 . The proportions of the reactants may be such that after precipitation at 30 C. and 1 hour's standing, the pH of the liquid is 8-9. The product contains 18.8% Bi 2 O 3 , 9.9% MgO, 49.9% SiO 2 and 20% H 2 O, and has a surface area of 280 m<SP>2</SP>/g. It is used in pharmaceutic compositions as an anti-acid.
