729,723. Gasifying heavy oils, light oils &c. WAGNER, O. Nov. 3, 1953 [Nov. 27, 1952], No. 30305/53. Class 55 (2). In the production of a gas of high calorific value from heavy oil, light oils or the like the apparatus comprising two interconnected generators 1 and 2 each containing a refractory mass and an intermediate superheater 3 also containing a refractory mass is in a first blow period heated to the required temperature by burning oil or oil tar with air admitted through lines 6 and 7, the waste gases passing to the stack 13 through an outlet 12<SP>1</SP> after passing through generators 1 and 2 and the superheater 3, then in a first make period oil and steam are admitted through lines 5<SP>1</SP> and 8<SP>1</SP> into the generator 2, the gas produced passing only through the superheater 3 and leaving the apparatus by an outlet 14; subsequently in a second blow period oil and air are admitted by lines 6<SP>1</SP> and 7<SP>1</SP> to the generator 2 and waste gases leave by outlet 12, and in a second make period oil and steam are admitted to the generator 1 by lines 5 and 8 and the make gas leaves by an outlet 14<SP>1</SP>. Secondary air may be admitted at a point adjacent to the superheater 3 through lines 11 or 11<SP>1</SP>. during the blow periods, and each blow period is followed by a steam purge before the make period commences.
