729,320. Stuffing-box substitutes. PRECISION RUBBER PRODUCTS CORPORATION. April 25, 1952 [April 30, 1951], No. 10444/52. Class 122 (5). A packing ring 1 of resilient elastic material housed in an annular groove 2 of the shaft housing A has, in its free state, an inner diameter greater than that of the shaft B and an outer diameter greater than that of the bottom of the groove so that, when assembled, the ring is radially compressed between the shaft and the housing. The sides of the ring may, or may not, engage the sides of the groove.
