Abstract

729,056. Pipe-cleaning devices. MERCOL PRODUCTS, Ltd. Sept. 18, 1953 [Sept. 18, 1952], No. 23503/52. Class 99 (2). A number of circumferentially spaced and radially disposed blades 13 extend longitudinally of a rotatable cylindrical body 11 having a conical forward end 14 which may be provided with longitudinal ribs 16 divided at intervals by a helical groove or circumferential grooves 17. Each blade 13 is pivoted intermediate of its length to the body 11, and the inner longitudinal edge thereof contacts the body to limit the rocking movement of the blade so that the rear or leading end, or both, of the blade projects from the body, for operative contact with deposit on the internal surface of the pipe. The blades 13 may be tapered and mounted between pairs of tapering fins 12 ; the body 11 may be provided with longitudinal, fixed blades 19 out of alignment with 'the blades 13. As shown, the base 18 between the fins 12 is concavely curved and the inner edges of the blades are straight ; alternatively, the inner edges of the blades are convexly curved and the base 18 is straight. Preferably, the radial outward movement of the leading edge of the blades, due to centrifugal force while the device is rotating, is less than that of the trailing edge.
