A device for removing solid material from the drum 1 of a centrifugal strainer separator comprises a blade-like scraper 11 carried by a rocking and longitudinally displaceable shaft 13 adapted to swing to and from the inside of the drum by a rocking movement of the shaft and up and down the drum by the longitudinal displacement of the shaft, the scraper 11 being pivotally connected to an arm 12, extending from the rocking shaft, at a point thereon located on the opposite side to the rocking shaft 13 of a plane extending through the axis 2 of the separator and the point of contact of the scraper and the drum, i.e. the position shown in broken lines in Fig. 2. A leaf spring provides a pivotal connection between vertical edges on the scraper 11 and the end of the arm 12, the arrangement permitting the rotation of the drum to force the scraper more deeply into the cake to be removed from the drum after the rocking shaft has reached the end of its rocking movement, such penetration being caused by the above-mentioned dispositions of the rocking shaft 13 and the connection between the scraper and the arm 12. Rotational movement of the shaft 13 is effected by a pin 24 thereon engaging a slot in a fixed sleeve 14 surrounding the shaft, the slot having an upper spirally shaped portion 26, which turns the shaft 13 and arm 12 to move the scraper towards the drum, and a straight portion 25 along which the pin moves while a motor 19 is rotating a nut 18 on a screwed part of the shaft to move it upwards relatively to the drum.
