Abstract

1,031,561. Cleaning pipes. F. MURRAY, E. J. MURRAY, and S. MURRAY. July 16, 1962 [April 17, 1961], No. 13731/61. Heading B3D. [Also in Division F2] A device for cleaning the ends of pipes by rotating either the devices or the pipe comprises a hollow body 1 containing scouring means, such as wire brushes 5 lying radially in the body and mounted in blocks 4 of plastics material or wood, and internal pipe cleaning means such as a cutter 11 for removing burrs from the inside edge of the pipe. A threaded ring 12 retains the above components and a centring ring 14 in the body, which contains openings 10 cooperating with gaps 6 between the brushes 5 to enable either centrifugal action to remove the particles or to enable vanes 8 mounted on a ring 7 to form dust extraction means. The device can be arranged to clean at least two coaxial pipes of differing diameter. A conical plug including the cutter 7 or having an abrasive surface can be used to stop dust from entering the pipe. The scouring means can be resilient or resiliently mounted and can be interchanged to suit pipes of differing diameter and for replacement, or can be mounted on the body 1.
