APPLICATION FILED MAYI3. 1919.

UNITED STATES PATENT orrica.
EDWARD J). MACKINTOSH, OP BROOKLYN, NEW YORK, AssieNoE, B DIRECT AND MEsNE ASSIGNMENTS, TO s. s. HEPWOETH COMPANY, on NEW Yoamn. Y., A CORPORATION OE NEW ORK; AND BROOKLYN 'rnustr COMPANY, OE BROOKLYN,
NEW YORK.
Application filed May 13.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, EDWARD D. MACKIN- 'rosrr, a citizen of the United States, residing at Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and the State of New York, have invented an Improvement in Centrifugal-Machine Dischargers, of which the following is a specification.
The object of my invention is to provide a plow, for use in a centrifugal machine discharger, which permits the basket to sway somewhat and still maintains contact with the lining without causing excessive wear of the lining due to the intensity of the pressure caused thereby.
Referring to the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification, Figure 1 is a plan of my invention and Figure 2 is an elevation.
The plow comprises a rear portion a attached to the shaft, 0, and prevented from rotating thereon by the feather, cl, as illus trated in my Patent No. 1,326,411, December 30, 1919, the application for which was filed on even date herewith, together with a tip 6 pivoted at f on the rear portion a, and provided with a scraper, g, attached to its forward end, and a tail, h. A spring, is, normally holds the tip in an extended position bearing against the centrifugal lining, m.
In the operation of an unloader provided with this plow, when the plow is advanced into the sugar, its rear portion a is held by means of the shaft, 0, in a fixed relation to the center of the centrifugal basket. As this basket sways or as any inequalities in the lining approach the unloader, the tip, 0, pivoted about 7, moves to and fro-slightly, thus preventing injury to the screen, m, and at all times maintaining contact with the same and preventing the plow jumping over some of the material.
Should the spring 76 break, or for other reason fail to function, the tip 6 is positively moved into extended position to engage the material in the basket by reason of the engagement of the tail h with the latter. Once the tip 6 has been forced into the material, the pressure of the latter thereon CENTRIFUGAL-MACHINE DISCHARGER.
1919. Serial No. 296,908.
maintains the tip in operative position against the wall of the basket.
I claimz- 1. In a centrifugal machine discharger, a vertically movable plow shaft, a plow having a rear portion rigid therewith, and held thereby in a fixed relation to the center of the centrifugal basket when the unloader is in operative position, and a tip pivoted on said rear portion of the plow to automatically compensate the swaying of the basket, and irregularities in the basket surface against which it bears in the oper- 'ative position of the plow.
2. In a centrifugal machine discharger, a vertically movable plow shaft, a plow having a rear portion rigid therewith, and held thereby in a fixed relation to the center of the centrifugal basket when the unloader is in operative position, and a tip pivoted on said rear portion of the plow to automatically compensate the swaying of the basket, and irregularities in the basket surface against which it bears in the operative position of the plow, in combination with spring means for holding said tip normally in extended position.
3. In a centrifugal machine discharger, a vertically movable plow shaft, a plow having a rear portion rigid therewith, and held thereby in a fixed relation to the center of the centrifugal basket when the unloader is in operative position, anda tip pivoted on said rear portion of the plow to automatically compensate the swaying of the basket, and irregularities in the basket surface against which it bears in the operative position of the plow, in combination with. a tail piece associated with the plow tip and arranged to engage the material in the basket and force said tip thereinto.
4. In a centrifugal machine discharger, a vertically movable plow shaft, a plow having a rear portion rigid therewith, and held thereby in a fixed relation to the center of the centrifugal basket when the unloader is in operative position, and a tip pivoted on said rear portion of the plow to auto matically compensate the swaying of the basket, and irregularities in the basket surface against which it bears in the operative position of the plow, in combination with spring means for holding said tip norwardly to the wall of the basket or its lining, and backwardly between the said wall and the first-named part.
6. In a centrifugal machine discharger, a vertically movable plow shaft, a plow having a rear portion rigid therewith, and held thereby in a fixed relation to the center of the centrifugal basket when the unloader is in operative position, and a tip pivoted on said rear portion and forming substantially a flexible continuation of the plow face and adapted to bear against the inner surface of the centrifugal basket during the discharge of the-latter by the plow.
