958,158. Cleaning tubes. E. L. WARD. March 14, 1963 [April 7, 1962], No. 13488/62. Headings F2G and F2N. An appliance for scraping the interiors of tubes comprises a rotatable central holder 1 which carries removably scraper blade units 2 consisting of two radially extending blades (Fig. 7) disposed at an angle to each other, the blades being inserted in axial slots 12 in the holder 1 and held there by a cap 10 on a screw 9. The blade units may be of sheet metal or of plastics. When assembled their overall diameter is slightly greater than that of the pipe so that the blades are slightly flexed and their edges may be sharpened and/or bent to form cutting edges. Fig. 8 shows an alternative embodiment in which the holder is constructed of four rods 14 screwed into a block 17, two of which 14<SP>1</SP> receive nuts 23 to attach an upper head 16 which clamps the blades in the positions shown in Fig. 9. The appliance is connected to a rod 3 whereby it may be rotated mechanically or manually. The connection is formed by a recess 7 which receives the bent end 4 of the rod 3 and an axially perforated screwed plug 8. A tommy-hole 13 is also provided. There may be more than two scraper blade units 2.
