Abstract
1,272,434. Shearing; angular bending. A. Z. BOYAJIAN. 16 May, 1969 [20 May, 1968], No. 25007/69. Headings B3E and B3W. A manually actuatable tool for severing hard metal rod or wire has a handle 11 and a cutter 24 pivoted to a base 10 at 12 and 27 respectively. To sever a rod (not shown) located in aligned apertures a-f or slots 41 in the base and the cutter, a stud 16 on the handle engages the rear edge of the cutter and pivots it about pivot 27. The cutter can be reversed end to end to bring screw threaded apertures into use. Slots 30, 31 allow clearance for the pivot 12 in both positions of the cutter. To bend a rod R, Fig. 3, positioned by a post inserted in aperture 19 or 20, a clamp 22 and the pivot 12, the stud 16 engages the rod and bends it about the pivot 12. The pivot 12 may be replaced by one of a different diameter for varying the radius of the bend. In an alternative embodiment only for severing, the handle has, instead of a stud 16, a thickened cam portion surrounding the pivot 12. Cutters of circular or square form or triangular with chamfered corners have up to four pivotreceiving holes, each having a group of cutting apertures associated with it. In use the base and handle may be held one in each hand or the base may be fixed to a support.
