Abstract

727,480. Television. ELECTRIC & MUSICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. Feb. 27, 1953 [Feb. 28, 1952], No. 5216/52. Class 40 (3). Apparatus for televising objects in the presence of scattered light, e.g. under water or in fog, comprises means for illuminating the object 4 to be televised with a beam or beams 5 of parallel light projected on to the object in a direction perpendicular to the axis of the television camera 1, and a light polarizing filter 3 suitably oriented to reduce the scattered light which tends to be plane polarized in the direction perpendicular to the incident light when the particles causing the scattering are less than the wavelength of the light. In an alternative arrangement the filter may be disposed between the source of light and object. Where the apparatus is employed under water, the filter may be incorporated in the window of the casing housing the camera or source of light.
