Abstract
977,059. Television. ELECTRIC & MUSICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. Jan. 27, 1961 [Jan. 28, 1960; April 1, 1960], Nos. 3193/60 and 11498/60. Heading H4F. [Also in Division G2] Apparatus for examining cylindrical and similar objects, Fig. 1, for flaws and cracks comprises a mirror system projecting an allround view of the surface to the objective 2 of a television camera for focusing on to the planar target surface thereof. As shown the quadrant LF is reflected by mirrors 3, 4, and quadrant LR by mirror 5, a similar arrangement also being provided for quadrants RF, and RR. In a modification, Fig. 5, not shown, the cylinder is divided into six sectors one set of mirrors being arranged to project views of alternate sectors to one level in the television camera and another set of mirrors to project views of the other sectors to a second level to provide a display in the form of one on top of the other. In another form, Fig. 9, for viewing the inner surface of a cylinder 6, a convex reflector 7 is mounted on a plate 8 coaxially with the television camera, not shown, supported in a frame so that its lens protrudes through plate 9. To economise in space the first valve only in the head amplifier may be located adjacent the camera and its output fed by a cable to the remainder of the amplifier. In a further form, the cylindrical object is arranged more through an aperture in a dished mirror and the all-round view is reflected along the axis of the cylinder either directly to the television camera or to a plane mirror for reflection thereto.
