Abstract
1,080,563. Colour television cameras. ELECTRIC & MUSICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. Feb. 24, 1964 [Feb. 23, 1963], No. 7646/64. Divided out of 1,076,571. Heading H4F. [Also in Division G2] An optical system for use in a colour television camera comprises a primary lens 5, a mirror 6 which splits a beam emergent from said lens into a transmitted beam and a reflected beam, and an adjustable aperture 18 effective on one of the latter beams, the transmission to reflection ratio of the mirror 6 being varied from the centre of the mirror to the periphery thereof so that the light transmitted through the aperture 18 depends on the size of the aperture to a smaller extent than if the mirror had a constant uniform transmission to reflection ratio. In a modification, the transmission to reflection ratio of the mirror 6 is varied with adjustment of the aperture 18. The mirror 6 is positioned adjacent the exit aperture of the primary lens 8. The beam reflected therefrom passes through an adjustable diaphragm to form an image I 1 on a photo-cathode 1, this image being translated into a luminance signal. The image I 2 formed by the transmitted beam is transferred to the targets 2, 3, 4 of three vidicons by a transfer lens 8 and two dichroic mirrors 9, 10. The mirror 6 may be provided with a greater reflection to transmission ratio at its centre so that the majority of light in the axial rays emerging from the lens 5 goes to form the image I 1 , and so that most of the light in the annular rays goes to form the image I 2 , The roles of the reflected and transmitted beams may be reversed when the variation of the reflection to transmission ratio of the mirror will also be reversed.
