661,797. Television transmitters. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. May 9, 1949 [May 11, 1948], No. 12331/49. Class 40 (iii). A view-finder for use with an image-orthicon television transmitting tube comprises a partially-reflecting, partially light-transmitting device 7 which splits the beam focused by the objective lens 6, so that the transmitted light forms an image on the photo-cathode 12 while the reflected light produces an image on the ground-glass screen 20. The device 7 may be a half-silvered mirror having achromatic properties or it may be a dechroic reflector comprising a thin transparent film deposited on a transparent surface. In an arrangement employing a dechroic reflector the transmitted light may be arranged to compensate for divergences in the colour characteristic of the cathode 12 from that of the eye. Alternatively, the reflector may reflect only light of the colours to which the photo-cathode is insensitive, thereby effecting a worsening of the colour characteristic of the tube, but providing a more sensitive arrangement. As the same objective lens is used for both optical systems, simultaneous focusing of the two images by a single control may be effected.
